Google to face off against patent company in trial • 4:14 AM

• Jury selection is due to start today at a federal court in Delaware in a trial over claims by Intellectual Ventures that Google (GOOG) unit Motorola Mobility violated the privately held patent company's smartphone IP, including with Google Play.
• The trial will take place as Congress debates whether to limit software patents and make it easier to battle lawsuits.
• A win for Google could be used to show that the government issues too many problematic patents.
• Interestingly, the search giant participated in IV's first patent investment fund.
