Yahoo reportedly landing Katie Couric for online show • 6:00 PM
- Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter talk show host Katie Couric is "negotiating an exit package" with ABC, and "finalizing an extensive deal" with Yahoo (YHOO) for "a newsmaker interview program" appearing on the Web giant's home page.
- AllThingsD previously reported Marissa Mayer was "personally shepherding" an effort to recruit Couric for an online interview show.
- Given ABC's deal with Couric is reportedly worth $40M over three years, the hiring couldn't have come cheap.
- Yahoo has been trying to strike deals that can grow its relatively limited video ad inventory, and hasn't been scared to spend money to hire high-profile media figures. The company announced last month it's forming a tech news site that will feature NYT columnist David Pogue.
