Google adds Waze alerts to Maps; YouTube apps getting overhauled • 12:12 PM

• Waze's crowdsourced real-time traffic alerts (accidents, road closures, etc.) are being added to the Traffic view on Google Maps' (GOOG +0.5%) Android/iOS apps. In addition, Waze's apps now include a Google search bar and access to Street View/satellite imagery.
• The additions come even though the FTC is still reviewing Google's acquisition of Waze, which reportedly has a $1.3B price tag. The WSJ reported in June the FTC might have asked Google not to integrate Waze's data with Maps until its review is complete. So much for that.
• Meanwhile, YouTube is set to completely overhaul its mobile apps. Taking some cues from Google Now and the Maps overhaul, the new YouTube apps will have a card-based UI, playlist search support, and the ability to search for videos while viewing one.
• YouTube and its mountains of short-form content claim a dominant share of mobile video traffic. Google claims 400M+ mobile videos are watched on YouTube every day. A music video subscription service is reportedly in the works.
